About
Nature and photography - the beginning
An interest in nature and capturing it’s intrinsic beauty through photography developed during my formative years in the Orkney Islands, off the north coast of Scotland. After leaving Orkney I undertook undergraduate study of the environment, followed by post graduate study specialising in soil science. A career which I continue to pursue professionally in my position as Head of Technical Services, Environmental & Biochemical Sciences Department at the James Hutton Institute.
Nature photographer - practice
As a photographer I specialise in black and white nature photos. Personal photographic projects focus my attention on specific areas, species or techniques. Genres include:
Landscape photography
Seascapes of Scotland
Wildlife photography
My current focus is on monochrome seascapes of the north east of Scotland and mountain landscapes. Wildlife photography is often photographed from my purpose built hide.
Fine art nature photography - prints
Working with professional printers with experience of fine art photography I exhibit archival quality limited edition monochrome prints on specialist papers.
Representing the best images from my nature photography galleries these are available for sale to collectors.
